Worldwide, the oral health of older people (65+) living in LTCF is poor with a high prevalence of dental caries, periodontal disease, and incremental tooth loss.

The 2-hour course includes:

  • Learning about and following the OHI Card instructions.

  • Hands on training of dental aids use and their function that  makes delivering oral care easier to administer.

  • Recognizing moderate to gross decay, tartar, inflammation, abscess, fistula, moderate to advanced periodontal disease etc. Also, acute vs. chronic disease manifestations through our colorful slideshow. Educate staff about plaque formation in nursing homes considering diet, mobility, and linguistics.

  • Identify common medicaments that cause dry mouth side effect. Getting familiar with the Refill guide, calculate and input items  in a patient’s financial plan so there are no interruptions in care.

  • Learning the importance of oral health and how it relates to general health.  Plus a lot more!
